Mechanical Engineering Technologist | Automation Specialist | Petroleum Engineering Professional
With a diverse and interdisciplinary background, my career has taken me from the oil fields of Cameroon to the innovative world of mechanical and automation engineering in Canada. My expertise spans mechanical design, automation, and hands-on electrical and electronic skills gained through years of education and work experience.
Petroleum Engineering & Field Operations
I began my journey with a master's in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Douala. My training emphasized understanding reservoir dynamics, fluid mechanics, and drilling technologies. As an intern petroleum technician, I was responsible for monitoring well pressure, analyzing reservoir data, and participating in field operations. I also gained a solid foundation in electrical and electronic systems used in drilling and reservoir monitoring, enabling me to work with power systems, sensors, and data acquisition tools.
Mechanical Design & Engineering Expertise
After relocating to Canada, I pivoted to mechanical design, receiving formal training in Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor at Red Deer Polytechnic. This training allowed me to master 2D and 3D design software, with a specific focus on integrating electrical and mechanical components into cohesive systems. Whether it's designing intricate mechanical parts or ensuring the compatibility of electronic systems within those designs, I have developed a comprehensive approach to engineering.
At SAIT, I built on these skills through coursework in hydraulics, mechanical principles, material testing, and CNC machining, while also learning to integrate electrical components such as sensors, wiring, and control systems into my designs.
Automation, Robotics, & PLC Programming
In my second year at SAIT, I specialized in automation and developed expertise in PLC programming and robotics. I focused on how mechanical systems are powered and controlled by electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic components, ensuring efficient and safe automation. This included hands-on experience with wiring PLC electrical cables and integrating pneumatic systems for motion control and automated processes. I have programmed PLCs like Rockwell, Siemens, and Omron to control industrial robots and machinery, and my capstone project involved integrating a robotic arm with an HMI and PLC system.
The combination of mechanical and electrical skills, alongside pneumatics and hydraulics training, allowed me to design complex automation systems where motors, actuators, sensors, and fluid systems work together to achieve high precision and efficiency.
Customer Service & Teamwork
From 2016-2018, I worked as an intern at a microfinance institution in Cameroon during school breaks. Here, I developed excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, learning how to manage client interactions, handle financial transactions, and solve customer-related issues quickly and effectively.
In Canada, my early work experience included being a merchandiser at Walmart and Shoppers. I built a strong work ethic, paying attention to detail, working efficiently in fast-paced environments, and collaborating with teams to achieve common goals. I also demonstrated leadership, earning Employee of the Month three times for my dedication and performance
Building Automation & Electrical Systems
At a plumbing and heating company, I gained critical skills in systems design and building automation systems, learning not just to design but also to understand how plumbing, HVAC, and fire suppression systems work in real-world applications. I was responsible for designing these systems, helping with their installations, and ensuring that they functioned efficiently and safely. This experience expanded my knowledge of how to integrate mechanical, electrical, and control systems into large building infrastructures, working with the wiring and electrical components that power HVAC, lighting, and fire suppression systems.
By participating in the design, installation, and maintenance of these systems, I developed a well-rounded understanding of how plumbing, HVAC, and fire suppression systems operate, particularly the electrical and control aspects that ensure they run smoothly and reliably. This deepened my expertise in building automation, where I applied my electrical skills to design control panels and wiring for automated systems that manage heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and safety mechanisms like fire suppression systems.
Current Role: Mechanical Engineering Technologist at Fitness Mechanical
At Fitness Mechanical, I play a key role in the design, manufacturing, inspection, and installation of strength equipment. We use SolidWorks, Inventor, and Fusion for designing the equipment, ensuring all mechanical components are optimized for performance and durability. Additionally, I design equipment layouts using AutoCAD, contributing to precise planning and efficient space utilization.
Beyond design, I assist in the manufacturing processes, such as controlling the laser and cutting tables, assembling equipment, and performing diagnostics and troubleshooting on machines like treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes to ensure they meet strict safety and operational standards. Working in various sectors, including oil and gas sites, has sharpened my expertise in creating safe, compliant, and high-quality equipment.
